Hello everyone, I'm Alan Wollschlager and here's at little about myself. I started studying severe storms and tornadoes at a very young age. My interest only grew once I became old enough to drive and chase the “famous mothership” myself! To enhance my knowledge, I started attending Sky Warn classes every year, I watched different types of storm documentaries and read every severe storm textbook I could get my hands on. Growing up, I spent most of my spring and summer evenings, watching and studying every severe storm as they moved through my home town, Necedah, WI.
Throughout my storm chasing adventures, I have learned how to read the skies and the surrounding atmosphere. This allows me to determine if I should reposition, in an area
more suitable for severe weather, or if I should stay in my planned target area. In order to be a good storm chaser; an individual has to be able to read the sky and identify different types of cloud features. These can be key factors in spotting different severe weather phenomena. The more schooling and information an individual can get, only helps to sharpen his/her skills on severe weather. It takes many years to be able to read the atmosphere and make the proper determination of how bad a storm could be.
Over the last few years, I began forecasting on my own and plotting target areas. I found forecasting a lot of fun, and at times very rewarding. However, there have been plenty of times that the atmosphere didn’t produce, leaving me with a “blue sky bust”. I would say, storm chasing is a lot like fishing; some days you catch the big one and other days, you go home without anything. For these reason’s combined, A.M.W Tornado Hunters was created and offers storm chasing tours within WI, IL, IA, and MN.
Hello my name is Hunter Bolssen, I've been fascinated with thunderstorms at an early stage while growing up. I attended my first spotter class at 14 and was chasing soon after getting my license at 16. I met Alan while attending the University Of Wisconsin Steven's Point. We quickly became good friends as we chased together and shared our experiences. I love the rush of a good chase, however I also enjoy educating others and providing the public with useful information in dangerous situations.
This web site is dedicated to the memory of Martin Allan Wollschlager.
